Dinning table re-do

So my husband and I just recently moved. Prior to that, we knew that our dinning space would be smaller and our rectangular table would not fit in our new place and we set out to find a smaller one. We found the perfect one on Craigslist. It is round and has a leaf in it so that we can make it bigger if we need to. We scored this awesome table and chairs for 40.00 bucks! I in visioned something bright and fun to liven up our new apartment. I really love the Two-tone look, so we decided to stain the top and paint the bottom half a bright turquoise. My husband and I usually hit up the mess up paint section first to see if we can score some great deals. We found this turquoise paint for 5 bucks! We used Valspar Semi-gloss for the paint. For the stain, we used Varathan and the color was black cherry. We used semi-gloss polyurethane for our finish. This table was really scratched when we picked it up so we gave it a good sand down. I then started with the turquoise on the bottom half of the table. ( I normally don't use a primar when I am planning on distressing the furniture, so that when I re-sand the piece, the natural wood will come through). I then put the stain in the top of the table and the top of the chairs. I did 2 layers of the stain. Once everything was dry, I re-sanded the areas that I wanted to distress. Then finally I finished with a coat of lacquer. What do you think? Fun right?

My very first blog post...

So here I am! I'm Jessica, welcome to my first blog post! My husband and I just started an Etsy shop to sell the furniture that we refinish. We love being creative and enjoy the thrill of trying to do things ourselves. We try to save money and we kove the thrill of conquering a task. We refinished some pieces in our home and one day we just talked about doing it as a side business, so here we are...Originally, when we first talked about having a blog, we thought about having another avenue to promote our furniture and show our before and afters. But I think I want to add a little bit more to our blogs because I have so much going on in my head and I feel like sharing it all :). So you will see the before and afters, and our furniture we sell, plus bonus random thoughts too! So enjoy! So I think that I want to share my very favorite redo... My new yellow hutch that I love so much. This one I did for our home, not for the shop. It looks so cute in our kitchen!!! I found the hutch on Craig's list for 50 bucks and I already had the yellow paint from another project. I sanded, painted and distressed the wood. I added wrapping paper to give it a little pop. I also used the same paperin our cabinets. I painted the knobs the same color as our dinning table to pull the room together. I love yellow, its my favorite color and I am glad that it's becoming more popular because that means more things will be yellow... And I won't get made fun of for liking yellow, like when I made my bridesmads wear yellow and they didn't understand why... Anyway I hope you enjoy
